Initiatives

PIP’s purpose is to promote research into and development of the Pilbara to increase the productivity, profitability and sustainability of the pastoral sector.
Our partnership is committed to rejuvenating pastoral lands through the exploration of innovative strategies and production systems that promise business viability and climate resilience. A significant part of this commitment is fostering an inclusive pastoral industry by encouraging greater Aboriginal participation, ensuring that the benefits of technological advancements and sustainable practices are accessible to all community members.

Our initiative seeks to pave the way for a diverse, technologically adept industry, ready to embrace change and drive forward with a strong sense of purpose and inclusivity.

We’re keen on building a future-ready pastoral workforce. This involves integrating advanced agricultural technologies and innovations to not only enhance labor capabilities and efficiencies but also to open up new employment avenues across the northern WA. By doing so, we aim to create a vibrant, inclusive pastoral community equipped to navigate and thrive in the face of future challenges and opportunities.

Our initiative seeks to pave the way for a diverse, technologically adept industry, ready to embrace change and drive forward with a strong sense of purpose and inclusivity.

How do we collaborate with PIP on a project?

01 Align With Our Impact

Projects should directly contribute to our strategic themes of optimising feed base utilisation, workforce development, environmental sustainability (CN30), cattle health and nutrition, and innovative technology adoption. We prioritise initiatives that promise significant, long-term benefits for the beef industry and that demonstrate potential for wide-reaching impact across the region.

Our process is designed to be open and transparent, encouraging sector-led proposals that align with our strategic goals. Questions?

The Pilbara Innovation Partnership (PIP) is a union between the McGowan Government, Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) and mining company Rio Tinto, which has extensive pastoral holdings in the region, aimed at enhancing beef production in the Pilbara through sustainable and innovative practices. PIP builds on the foundation of past research, development, and application initiatives in the region, leveraging existing knowledge and capabilities to drive forward new projects. By integrating learnings from previous collaborations and successes, PIP aims to foster a thriving agricultural community in the Pilbara.

PIP offers a variety of support for projects that align with our strategic themes, such as land management, workforce development, business management, cattle health and nutrition, infrastructure improvements, financial sustainability, and the adoption of innovative technologies. Support can include funding, access to a network of industry experts, shared resources, in kind support from PIP partners and assistance with implementing best practices and technologies.

If you’re interested in investing in the Pilbara and collaborating through co-investment with PIP, we encourage you to connect with us to discuss how your investment goals align with our strategic initiatives. PIP offers a platform for place-based initiatives, providing a unique opportunity to engage with local stakeholders and contribute to meaningful and sustainable development in the region.

For project funding, ensure your proposal aligns with PIP’s strategic themes and demonstrates potential for significant impact in the Pilbara beef industry.
