Who We Are

Our Mission

Central to PIP’s mission is the enhancement of the Pilbara pastoral sector through strategic investments that leverage the unique strengths of the region. By focusing on programs that are specifically designed to meet the region’s needs, PIP aims to create lasting impacts that not only advance the beef industry but also support the broader economic and social fabric of the Pilbara community.

PIP is setting a new standard for innovation in regional industry development, positioning the Pilbara Pastoral sector for a future of growth and resilience. PIP is a collaboration between the Department of Primary Industry and Regional Development, mining company Rio Tinto and Meat & Livestock Australia.

What We're About

Profitable beef production that respects land, people, and place.

The Pilbara Beef Industry is a long supply chain. We start with the very beginning, producers. If the production system isn't producing, the rest of the industry underperforms.

We're co-funded by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Meat and Livestock Australia, and Rio Tinto. Each of these funding bodies clearly recognises the value PIP is creating within and for the Pilbara Beef Industry.

We also partner with key groups and experts within each of our projects, spreading the funding and impacts further into the regions.

PIP is a much-needed link in the supply chain that aligns the goals of our funding bodies to the impact producers need and want on the ground.

What does that mean? We translate broad industry policy into ways we can access funding that helps improve the beef industry on every level.

Land. People. Animals. Industries. Businesses. Teams. Ecosystems.

Without trust & respect, these elements lose out. They lose out on community, on health, on happiness, on connection, on profit, on cohesion, on collaboration, and on opportunity.

We foster trust and respect because our actions should benefit the entire Pilbara region, and that is impossible to achieve alone.

The ideas we back for the Pilbara are all ground-truthed to ensure we can create real impact on-station, locally, regionally, and industry-wide.

That means incorporating extension and knowledge sharing into everything we do. We'll share what worked and what didn't.

PIP's strategy

Our strategy is flexible and needs-based—designed to support projects that matter to producers and reflect real conditions on the ground. We focus on practical innovation in areas like land use, herd productivity, technology, and workforce development.

It’s about backing what works to improve business performance, sustainability, and regional resilience.

What We're About

Profitable beef production that respects land, people, and place.

We back producers to test and adopt new approaches—from tech and genetics to land management and workforce development. It’s about finding what works in the Pilbara and making it stick.

We bring together researchers, funding, government, and industry to align efforts, avoid duplication, and get more value from every project. Collaboration is built into everything we do.

People in the region, know what the region needs. We co-design projects with them, supporting practical solutions and building the skills, networks, and careers needed for the future.
